A popular guest harbour built in the old wharf of Sveaborg fortress, which in itself is well worth a visit. Sveaborg's construction started in 18th century under the command of Augustin Ehrensvärd, and the works were continued under the Russian rule from 1809 on. It's one of the largest if not the largest historical sea fort in the World. Read more at http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sveaborg .
Harbour master's tel: +358 41 510 1060. Sorry, no reservations. Cafe Bar Valimo doubles as port office. Web pages are currently (2012) only available in Finnish, but here's the link anyway: http://www.valimo.org/valimo_suomenlinna_vierasvenesatama_laituri.html - perhaps one day they will add svenska or English.
Enter the harbour area through an inlet that opens to the SW in 60.14554 N, 24.97745 E. The passage is narrow, but deep enough even for large boats.
About 40 berths with step-on booms. The space between booms is 2,5 and 7 meters. The larger ones are obviously designed for two or even three boats. Max. allowed displacement 20 tons.
Mooring costs (2012) 20 €/night + 3 € for eventual electricity. Washing machine and tumbler 5 €/batch, washing powder included.
The points of interest in Sveaborg include Ehrensvärd museum, toy museum, customs museum, Suomenlinna/Sveaborg showroom WWII submarine Vesikko, artillery museum, art gallery, summer theater, Gustavsvärd (old parade entrance to the fortress from the sea) and of course the fortress itself which provides plenty of excitement especially for kids. There is a choice of restaurants and bars from the top-notch dining place Valhalla to relaxed cafes and pubs.
